The EFAS Humanitarian Committee is committed to expanding access to foot and ankle care for underserved communities across Europe and beyond. Through strategic partnerships, medical outreach initiatives, and targeted educational programs, our goal is to alleviate suffering, restore mobility, and improve the quality of life for individuals affected by foot and ankle conditions—especially in areas with limited access to specialized care.

Key Projects & Activities

Principles of Foot and Ankle Surgery Courses in LMICs (Low- and Middle-Income Countries)

  • In September 2024, EFAS contributed to the BOFAS Principles Course in Rwanda, delivering high-quality training to local surgeons.
  • The first bilingual Principles of Foot and Ankle Surgery course was held with great success in Mozambique in April and provided highly interactive training for English and Portuguese speaking surgeons from across southern and Eastern Africa.
  • A subsequent course is planned for Algeria in September 2025.

Online Educational Sessions & Case Discussions

  • In March 2025, the committee launched its first online case discussion with healthcare professionals from Portuguese-speaking countries in Africa.
  • Online complex case discussions are being developed with the aim of holding them monthly, fostering international collaboration and knowledge sharing.
