EFAS FOUNDATION
 Travelling Fellowship

EFAS Fellowship Committee is pleased to announce the winners of the EFAS Travelling Fellowship Programme 2022. This fellowship has been an excellent opportunity for several young doctors to follow a fully immersed training with the leading European Foot and Ankle surgeons for the period of three weeks, observing and learning first hand and to get direct contact with many renowned centers and experienced colleges. EFAS will cover travel expenses and housing.
6 applicants have won this EFAS Travelling Fellowship. The programme is divided in 2 different routes.
The fellows who have won the travelling fellowship on the Northern Route are Dzenan JAHIC (Bosnia-Herzegovina), Bedri KARAISMAILOGLU (Turkey), Joao CAETANO (Portugal). They will visit:

  • 10 & 11 October - LITHUANIA - Vilnius : Republican Vilnius University Hospital - Supervisor: Dr. Aleksas MAKULAVICIUS
  • 13 & 14 October - DENMARK - Odense : Odense University Hospital - Supervisor: Dr. Johnny FROEKJAER
  • 17 & 18 October - SWEDEN - Gothenburg : Sahlgrenska University Hospital - Supervisor: Dr. Martin ALUND
  • 20 & 21 October - UK - London : Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital RNOH - Supervisor: Dr. Matthew WELCK
  • 24 & 25 October - UK - Oxford : Nuffield Orthopaedic Center - Supervisor: Dr. Rick BROWN


The fellows who have won the travelling fellowship on the Southern Route are Joris ROBBERECHT (Belgium), Ali NAJEFI (UK) and Joe WAGENER (Luxembourg). They will visit:

  • 10 & 11 October - GREECE - Naousa : General Hospital Naousas - Supervisor: Dr. Alexandros ELEFTHEROPOULOS
  • 13 & 14 October - ITALY - Verona : Verona University Hospital - Supervisor: Dr. Elena SAMALIA
  • 17 & 18 October - ITALY - Genoa : Clinica Montallegro - Supervisor: Dr. Marco & Mattheo GUELFI
  • 20 & 21 October - SWITZERLAND - Basel : Swiss Ortho Center - Supervisor: Dr. Victor VALDERRABANO
  • 24 & 25 October - FRANCE - Marseille : Centre du Pied et de la Cheville - Supervisor: Dr. Barbara PICLET
 Research Fellowship

Win €2000/ month for maximum of 6 months for a Research Fellowship in one of our EFAS recommended centers.
EFAS has developed several opportunities for a young surgeon to do a Research Fellowship on a renowned European Center. This could be a one in a lifetime career changing opportunity and a way to connect to the impressive network of friends that EFAS is.

This is a totally new fellowship program from EFAS. A short-term fellowship (3-6 months) will be offered in a research center in Europe supported by EFAS. Our strategy aim is to support research because research this is the cornerstone of clinical excellence.
The purpose of this Program is: 
To give young surgeons the opportunity to participate in at high level research
To support young researchers financially
To produce scientific results (papers, oral presentation, etc.)
To give the opportunity to develop a research project in a highly renowned European center 
To help the fellow to get in, learn and work in a respected research facility 

To create lifelong relationships that can be fruitful in the Future.

 Clinical Fellowship

This is not the first time we write to you about this topic, but as we feel that it is important, we are going to ask you to use some of your precious time to help us. We also know that there are several Clinical Fellows giving excellent education on Foot & Ankle all throughout Europe. 
One the other hand, we know that you think, like we do, that Education is the essential item of EFAS and Foot & Ankle surgery development in Europe.
If these Fellowships could have the EFAS Scientific Sponsorship it would be a win-win situation to all involved people and it would help to enlarge the impressive EFAS network of friends.

So, if you know of any fellowship running in a European Hospital with good quality, inform the organizing mentor to contact EFAS Secretariat (efassecretary@mcocongres.com) and get it listed on our portfolio of Clinical Fellowships.

 EFAS-AOFAS Exchange Program

Training and Education is in the very heart of EFAS. EFAS is offering an excellent opportunity for 3 European Young Surgeons to be immersed on the reality of top-level Hospitals in US for a period of three weeks. This short-term travelling fellowship will be in held three location (Boston, New York and Durham) and it's included on the EFAS-AOFAS Exchange Program. It will bring even closer the Orthopedic Surgeon from both sides of the Atlantic. This Program will give also the chance for 3 American Young Surgeons to come to Europe for a similar experience.

This fellowship will include also the participation in AOFAS Annual Meeting and the Fellow will be invited to develop a research project with the mentors from the visited site.

The application period will open in September 1th 2022. Don’t miss this extraordinary opportunity!

GFFC – EFAS Fellowship

This Fellowship is an opportunity given by GFFC to spend three weeks in Germany, travelling through three centers, Lübeck, Mainz and Munich. 
This Fellowship will be on the last three weeks of November 2022 and will end with the participation GFFC Congress in Munich on the first weekend of December. 
A grant will cover most of the travelling and housing expenses.

NEW DEADLINE: The application must be done till September 30th.

  • EFAS Presidential Prize: 5000 EUR are given for a finished project.
